Just because you havn't seen it before don't mean its wrong

This is a picture from a BBC television program interviewing the song writer from the Kinks ( that old 60's band). I had to take the picture because this is the first time I've seen anybody else use this mic technique.

A small lapel/ mini mic stuck to the guitar in that position with another out front in the "normal position". Dave Calandra and I call this our favorite mic because it has the amazing ability of  staying completely solid even when the guitarist moves around like a crazed antelope. While normally the mic not attached suffers small phase shifts and volume changes the mini mic just sits there solid as a rock.  I use a mini dpa for this job usually.

So if you find yourself liking something and you feel your the only one... Don't doubt your own abilities to pick a winner or your own good taste... go for it! Sooner or later you'll be vindicated by someone on the other side of the world perhaps.

Ariel Hyatt seems to be a star worth following

I first heard about Ariel from Mr Sivers.. yes ex  CD Baby Derek Sivers... There they were in front of a bunch of Guitars in a studio talking about "The Music Biz" ... cool she's a nice looking girl.. I listened. Interesting stuff and she's passionate as well .. years later Ariel tuned up at APRA here in Australia. I couldn't get to the presentation and felt even more dissappointed when my friend Ani said it was AMAZING... I won't miss out next time... nest time was 18 months later at the APRA song Summit. ( APRA is Australia's PRO for those unsure of the letters)  So there we were and as luck would have it ... It was Ariel's Birthday.. cool we sung Happy Birthday and ariel presented  an avalanche of facts that should have taken 3 hours in 50 minutes... I bought the Book.. "Music Success in nine weeks" and scurried off to the next seminar...little did I know the seed that had been planted... TBC....

Drums Recorded on "You won't forget her love"

Well we finally got into the studio on tuesday night and spent some time with Jeff doing the drums on “you won’t forget her love” After trying a few ideas it was clear that jeff needed to set him self free and play, play , play untill the vibe was gelling.

Recording drums is always a mission as any muso knows and for those geeky musos out there .. we used an 88 on the kik a T3 out side the Kik a royer stereo ribbon overhead with a coles  mono out back a couple of 421s on toms and a AKG 460 on hats... pretty standard really...

All I have to do now is replace all the guitars  etc... err start again in other words.. now I have the drums as abed... the foundation is setting and the building work good to go
