Well Hi there Blogger readers... I'm looking forward to playing the Monkey Bar this Sunday 6th of March. The vibe there is always relaxed and I usually have a great time ... which is important... you know if the performer is happy then the audience is happy... Just like when you get a meal from your flat mate when there in a good mood as apposed to when there just over being in the kitchen.

And so to the  unwelcome visitor... Terror antular... well not that scary really except this one escaped from my clutches and ran down behind the Lexicon... I hope he like reverb.

What a pretty face.....

Hope to see you at a gig and if you arn't on the newsletter list just drop me a line to pal@palsheldon.com and request the newsletter... I'll se to it that I send you a free download of a song as well if you mention Terror Antular.. Talk Soon

This Sunday Night at the Monkey Bar

Here's some info about this Sunday Night at the Monkey bar... Hope to see you there...

Laura Bayley A primary school teacher who for the most part spends her days teaching 6 year olds how to say the days of the week in order. She has been composing songs ever since she can remember and started out on piano but now writes on her prize possesion her guitar. She writes from the heart  and her songs continue to evolve and develop with every life experience.

Pal Sheldon Performs a delicious fusion of Neo Folk, & Pop Roots. The truth is an illusive subject and love an illusive childhood dream. Pal Sheldon can't guarantee you'll find either by attending his shows. But you may brush past it on your way to the bathroom or trip over something like it in the carpark. His songs tell about these often talked about and to often missed opportunities. Sounding like Tom Waits and Ryan Adams chatting under an umbrella in Byron Bay Pal Sheldon is sure to enliven the Cupid or Plato in everyone

Dani Carr Sydney based singer songwriter who has been generating a huge amount of interest.Dani has performed to sell out crowds at the Basement and has U.S. promoters keen to have Dani embark on a national tour. His unique mix of acoustic pop rock tunes have been likened to the sounds of James Taylor and John Mayer. Dani has performed on Channel 10 with Tim Bailey and watch this man's space for much bigger things to come.

Genevieve Chadwick An emerging solo artist sensation from the south coast of NSW. Genevieve delivers raw energy and enthusiasm through original songs of love, loss, freedom and the love of life with her gravel-voiced delivery and exuberant guitar. Current status in the county of children not wanting to wash up

Hi Dudes....  Well theses a Lorretta lyn Dude Ranch down the track apiece on the road to memphis. The trucks are thick on the road here rumbling along 10 at a time... where is that locomotive I saw on TV once.. again something is happening to stop a good idea getting ahead and a bad one winning out because it makes someone else more money.

But I do believe there is hope for the USA there does seem to be a tie of people thinking that theres a better way. The ribs place was "thinking" about using Degradable starch plates instead of paper.. well anything not to wash up right? ...you may have to pay something to someone for doing something...

There is a lot more health food than there used to be that's for sure and I have found 2 places that serve coffee in the correct manner even if one had to half fill a large cup to get it right. But thats a paper cup not a china cup... paper cup made in china perhaps.

Next week is Sonposium a full on week of edu-macation in the subtle art of Songs...Looking forward to it.

Not long now

Not long before I let my body be taken into the arms of the good people at qantas for a 14 hr flight to the other side of the world. I've got the last few songs to mix, a guitar to drop off at the repairers and one last weekend of spring. and that is what I'll be missing Spring. Its got to be the best time here in Sydney... the jasmin, no more jackets. What is the attraction to travel? If you have a few good reasons for OS travel... I would love to hear them. send em on I need some enchoragement.

Just because you havn't seen it before don't mean its wrong

This is a picture from a BBC television program interviewing the song writer from the Kinks ( that old 60's band). I had to take the picture because this is the first time I've seen anybody else use this mic technique.

A small lapel/ mini mic stuck to the guitar in that position with another out front in the "normal position". Dave Calandra and I call this our favorite mic because it has the amazing ability of  staying completely solid even when the guitarist moves around like a crazed antelope. While normally the mic not attached suffers small phase shifts and volume changes the mini mic just sits there solid as a rock.  I use a mini dpa for this job usually.

So if you find yourself liking something and you feel your the only one... Don't doubt your own abilities to pick a winner or your own good taste... go for it! Sooner or later you'll be vindicated by someone on the other side of the world perhaps.

Ariel Hyatt seems to be a star worth following

I first heard about Ariel from Mr Sivers.. yes ex  CD Baby Derek Sivers... There they were in front of a bunch of Guitars in a studio talking about "The Music Biz" ... cool she's a nice looking girl.. I listened. Interesting stuff and she's passionate as well .. years later Ariel tuned up at APRA here in Australia. I couldn't get to the presentation and felt even more dissappointed when my friend Ani said it was AMAZING... I won't miss out next time... nest time was 18 months later at the APRA song Summit. ( APRA is Australia's PRO for those unsure of the letters)  So there we were and as luck would have it ... It was Ariel's Birthday.. cool we sung Happy Birthday and ariel presented  an avalanche of facts that should have taken 3 hours in 50 minutes... I bought the Book.. "Music Success in nine weeks" and scurried off to the next seminar...little did I know the seed that had been planted... TBC....

Drums Recorded on "You won't forget her love"

Well we finally got into the studio on tuesday night and spent some time with Jeff doing the drums on “you won’t forget her love” After trying a few ideas it was clear that jeff needed to set him self free and play, play , play untill the vibe was gelling.

Recording drums is always a mission as any muso knows and for those geeky musos out there .. we used an 88 on the kik a T3 out side the Kik a royer stereo ribbon overhead with a coles  mono out back a couple of 421s on toms and a AKG 460 on hats... pretty standard really...

All I have to do now is replace all the guitars  etc... err start again in other words.. now I have the drums as abed... the foundation is setting and the building work good to go
